    TradeWinds Service, Inc, located in Merrillville, IN has a full-time position for an Children's Services. Day shift, hours may vary.

    POSITION OBJECTIVES – The Lead Teacher and the Assistant Teacher are responsible for the care and education of a group of children as part of a teaching team.  They are responsible for supervising and caring for children ages birth to 6 years of age that are enrolled in the Childcare program.  They are responsible to plan and implement the curriculum in accordance with TradeWinds Services, and Early Head Start.  This position requires active participation with the children, families, other members of the teaching team, as well as various Early Head Start staff, to assess and address the needs of individual children.

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

    Direct Services – Feeding of meals and snacks; Diapering and potty training; Providing appropriate developmental activities; Following through on therapy recommendations as stated by the therapists; Specialize techniques in feeding, positioning, medical procedure and use of special equipment as necessary

    Documentation – Daily or monthly as required by state regarding attendance, meals, medication, billings etc.; Complete incident reports as needed and report it to your supervisor; Daily health check for each child

    Planning/Observations/Assessments/Screenings/Tracking – Post weekly or biweekly (infants/toddlers) lesson plans that are Creative Curriculum; Track children’s developmental progress using TS Gold (observations); Accurate and timely assessment of all children according to TS Gold and each checkpoints; Review each child’s goals with supervisor or curriculum coordinator monthly or bi-monthly.; Meet with parents during child conferences twice a year and as needed; Communicate daily with parents about their child(ren); Complete the current developmental screening within 30 days of child’s enrollment and as needed. Complete annual screenings 2 times a year of each child. Maintain complete and updated educational portfolios of each child

    Contacts – Meetings with parents and/or department staff regarding individual cases; Meetings with supervisor and/or curriculum coordinator as a group or on individual basis; Master Coaches.

    Maintenance – Sanitizing and cleaning room and contents according to protocol; Stocking supplies in room and notifying supervisor when items are low; Identifying and reporting needs and repairs

    Teacher Observations: CLASS Observations (two times a year); Health and Safety Compliance; Behaviorists; Annual Observations; Teacher observations; Paths to Quality rating observation.

    Trainings – Maintain at least 20 hours of early childhood training clock hours; May need to attend Saturday or after work hour trainings.

    REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES

    Review the work of aides assigned to this position. Function independently in order to accomplish assignments, referring unusual problems to supervisor.

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    Maintain classroom to Indiana State Regulations/ Paths to Quality and Head Start/Early Head Start requirements. Keep classroom organized. Must be able to pass a drug screen. Must be able to pass a criminal background check. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    Education:  Associate’s /Bachelor’s Early Childhood or Elementary Education; Must meet child care licensing requirements; Must be at least 21 years of age (depending on childcare room)

    Experience:  Must have at least three (3) months experience with children in a classroom setting

    Mental Skills/Ability:  Must have good organizational skills and have the ability to prioritize projects or assignments. Must be alert at all times and have the ability to work with infants and young children. Must be able to react quickly and know what to do or who to contact in emergencies. Must be able to work with children identified with special needs in a positive manner, and must be familiar with stress management and conflict resolution techniques. Must be able to tolerate a high degree of stress at times, and have the physical and emotional stamina to respond quickly, appropriately and effectively to emergency situations. Must be able to function independently in order to accomplish position requirements, referring unusual problems to supervisor. Must protect the rights of persons served. Must protect the persons served from abuse and neglect. Must be understanding of and willing to work with a diverse group of children that TradeWinds serves. Must keep client information confidential.

    Physical Requirements: Lifting and carrying infants and children of up to approximately 30 pounds. Crouching, crawling, bending and climbing. Must be able to work with children with special needs in a positive manner, and must be familiar with stress management and conflict resolution techniques. Must be able to tolerate a high degree of stress, and have the physical agility and emotional stamina to respond quickly, appropriately, and effectively to emergency situations.

    Working Conditions: Day shift (hours may vary). Exposure to infectious diseases, aggressive children, biting, scratching, and body fluids. Classroom environment (inside and outside except when the severity of the weather poses a safety hazard or the wind-chill temperature is below twenty-five degree Fahrenheit.)

    Reports to: Childcare Coordinator.
